If you’re seeking a high grade manganese steel plate product, Clifton Steel is poised to meet your demands. Our 11-14% Genuine Hadfield Grade Tensamang™ steel plate is designed to withstand great impact while maintaining good ductility and toughness. All of these benefits are achieved as a result of Tensamang™ steel’s unparalleled hardness.

Displaying outstanding work hardening properties, Tensamang™ steel plate is amenable to high-impact wear applications or those in which gouging abrasion is encountered. In fact, the more beating it is exposed to, the harder our manganese steel gets. In terms of its properties, Hadfield Grade Tensamang manganese steel is both a non-magnetic and abrasion resistant steel plating product, making it the buyer's choice for magnet bottoms and separator drums.

Our 11-14% Hadfield Grade Tensamang™ steel wear plate is heat treated to the point that it develops a hard surface. On the Brinell hardness scale the product reaches a hardness score of 550 BHN through work hardening. This gives our Tensamang™ steel almost five times the hardness of mild steel and almost three times the hardness of annealed stainless steel. As such, you enjoy a longer lifespan and extended protection of your equipment and facilities. All the while, however, Clifton Steel’s Tensamang™ steel maintains a ductile core. That means that despite its tough exterior it can still be readily fashioned into the form you desire.

As it wears, Tensamang™ steel plate acquires a polished surface, rendering it aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It also affords good lubricity, allowing for an easy, positive flow of material across its surface.

Cutting and Machining
Cutting and machining Tensamang™ steel are not automatic. Our Tensamang™ steel plate has been designed with cutting and machining ease in mind. It can be cut with plasma, oxy-Acetylene, laser, and water jet as well as with abrasive cut-off saws, thereby eliminating the need to acquire costly new cutting tools. Although not considered a machinable grade, Clifton Steel has the experience and the know-how to drill, tap, machine and grind our Tensamang™ steel to meet your fabrication requirements. Forming
Although hot forming of Clifton Steel’s Hadfield Grade Tensamang™ steel plate is not recommended, the product can be cold formed. It can also be reheated, which will result in carbide precipitation and embrittlement.

Ask about our pre-peening operation if you can’t wait for a work hardening surface to occur.

Welding
Welding of our Tensamang™ steel is easily accomplished with Tensamang™ Electrodes or S.A. Wire, or AWS 309/309L stainless electrodes. Ductility will be increased in the fusion zone by penning. Preheating of our Tensamang™ steel is not recommended.

Thermal Treatment
Tensamang™ steel is heated to 1800+° until temperature is uniform throughout and rapidly quenched in water to produce an austenitic structure. The as-quenched hardness of our Tensamang™ steel is about 200 BHN.
